Ms. Kroll litigates a wide range of civil matters and appeals, including business disputes involving contracts, employment, real and intellectual property, as well as probate and trust matters.
Ms. Kroll is a lecturer for the Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics, California State University, Channel Islands. She teaches Biotechnology Law and Regulation, a core course for CSUCI's MS Biotechnology & MBA Dual Degree. Topics include intellectual property, privacy, ethics, gene therapy, cloning, and biomaterials in the medical and health sector, and farming and crop modification in the agricultural sector. She also teaches CSUCI's undergraduate courses in Business Law and Contracts and the Museum: Culture, Business & Education.
Ms. Kroll is married to Professor Kevin Volkan, who is one of the twelve founding faculty of CSUCI. They have one son.
RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Ms. Kroll published a recent article on real estate law in Westlake Magazine about pitfalls to avoid when couples buy a home "Can't Wait for the Wedding to Buy Your Dream House? Heed These Traps for Unwary Dreamers". In 2012 Ms. Kroll published articles in the Daily Journal and Citations magazine including "How do biotechnology laws affect real people?" in Citations.
In 2011, Ms. Kroll obtained summary judgment in favor of a plaintiff employee in an indemnity action against his former employer (Labor Code section 2802). The award was just under $500,000.
In 2010, she presented on "Culture Wars at School and Work: Freedom of Expression v. Freedom from Harassment," at the Center for Community Engagement at CSUCI/Camarillo Council on Aging.
Ms. Kroll's article, "Teaching through a Study of the Borat Litigation" was published in the 2010 edition of the international peer-reviewed Journal of the World Universities Forum. Ms. Kroll's use of the "Borat" litigation as a teaching tool was profiled on Boston University Law School's website in 2010. Ms. Kroll also presented on contract, civil rights, and constitutional issues arising from the 2007 academy-award nominated film, "Borat" at the World Universities Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
In 1997 Ms. Kroll and her husband were interviewed by the New York Times about their multiple graduate degrees in "Six Diplomas Later, They're Going Back to School".
